I was raised that way and (usually) opened the door for my wives, girlfriends and strangers at the store (male or female). You think he's better than Neil deGrasse Tyson? I beg to differ. But hey, it's a big universe! Still, I suggest you check out Nova ScienceNow and Tyson's radio show/podcast at http://Startalk.net. I went to a Q&A last year he did at the Hayden Planetarium and he had the place eating out of the palm of his hand. I could watch his YouTube videos until the end of time and not get bored of him. OK, I'll stop gushing.

None of this means I don't like Cox. I love Cox. Er, I mean, BRIAN Cox. He's totally cool and probably does go into more "deep" concepts than Tyson generally does. But Neil manages to educate while making you feel like you were just chatting with a buddy. With Cox I feel like I'm still doing the work of learning things. If that makes sense.

Also, have you checked out the show "Through the Wormhole" hosted by Morgan Freeman? It's pretty good, too. Though, I'm watching the first season right now and it's slightly out of date because of so many recent break throughs science has had (like confirming time dilation and the parts of DNA being found in meteorites).

And did you know that they're remaking "Cosmos"? I'm not sure how I feel about that. The original is surprisingly accurate still.

Re: Starnes Dot Com: Layerspaces: A Radically Disruptive And Transformative Revolutionary New Paradigm

Rob: Thanks, and I'm working on a small part of it.

Re: Starnes Dot Com: Layerspaces: A Radically Disruptive And Transformative Revolutionary New Paradigm

Wow - now you need to be a "Thomas Edison" type to put this together. Many of the technology pieces are out there.

Re: Starnes Dot Com: Pando: Earth's Largest and Oldest Multicellular Organism

This is fascinating stuff Kurt. I think that I speak for all of us who enjoy your intriguing, thoughtful, funny or super informative posts and commentary when I say that we all feel just as lucky and grateful to have your acquaintance on Facebook. Keep up the great banter and factoids... because it's people like you that truly make Facebook fun. I think it's incredible too that you are blessed to have your Grandfather so close to you in life... and to also share this venue with him. He must be as inquisitive and open-minded to learning about new things and new ideas as you are to embrace this new galaxy of communications and sharing...

Re: Starnes Dot Com: How Facebook Enriched My Life

Glad your Grandfather's surgery went well, Kurt!

Re: Testing Buzz Comments WP Plug-In With Disqus

Chris: Thanks for pointing out the FB connect issue -- fixed now!

Louis: Looks like WP Buzz Comments is a no-go with Disqus for now.

Disqus just needs to add Buzz to the *Reactions* list of services to integrate Buzz.

I will now kill this test post.

Re: Testing Buzz Comments WP Plug-In With Disqus

This is interesting - couldn't connect with FB though -

Re: Testing Buzz Comments WP Plug-In With Disqus

Tease! Seems we are of very similar thought on this issue. Perhaps improved tools/filters will help with the noise problem, but the proactive plan is to simply stop creating cross-network noise.

In a perfect world, everyone could do whatever they wanted and each of us could filter the flow with precision.

Re: Starnes Dot Com: Going Native In The Age Of Aggregation

Thanks for your comment and thoughts, Alcarcalimo.

I like the humanize angle. :-)

Re: Starnes Dot Com: Going Native In The Age Of Aggregation

[...] The friendfeed solution of imaginary friends solves only one side of the problem (and not very well). In order to pull in friends, you still need to join networks. In a way, it would be better if we were back in the era before social networks and everyone added their content to blogs (as I am doing now). There’s another related issue that there is a certain meaning to the communities in which our friends “live”. In writing, they have in mind their network of people that cohabit their social network. Kurt Starnes talks about this in a recent blog post “Going native in the age of aggregation“.
